This is our newest unrelenting positivity post.

The state in question is the great state of Washington.

To all our foreign friends give a shout ask questions send praise. To our Americans do the same.

Ask questions, share stories, make jokes. Just remember not to be a jerk.

Recall the famous phrase my grandma invented “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything that isn’t redemptively funny.”

Stay tuned for 31/50 after this one.

The states are in random order based on my whim at the moment. Today’s whim is letting my kid pick a state. Outsourcing my whims.

  1. Apples and grunge music? That’s so 1992…

Grab a Starbucks, boot up your Windows PC & go visit [Amazon.com](http://Amazon.com) for all your shopping needs… That’s what we are now…

  2. Lived there for a decade. Western Washington is a stunning natural environment.

  3. Once took the train from Seattle to Bellingham and it was about the most beautiful little train trip a person can take.

  4. Washington state is the singularly most beautifully diverse landscape in America. We have rainforests, sandy beaches, ocean, lakes, rivers, deserts, and everything in between.

We have better wineries and wines than the Napa Valley. We grow better potatoes than Idaho. We grow almost all of the hops for your beer. We invented the best apple, the cosmic crisp. We make almost all of the fast food french fries.

We have world changing scientific innovation, tons of agriculture, neat of industry, and more than a normal allowance for weird (and for the most part a reasonable cost-of-living).

Overall, the best thing about Washington is that almost anywhere you go people are pretty neighborly.

    -lifelong Washingtonian.

  5. The Olympic peninsula might just be one of my favorite places in the world. It’s beautiful, I found the people friendly, it was genuinely serene.

  6. I miss living in Seattle. It was so easy to go kayaking. Water everywhere, lots of access points.

Also so many fun, smart, creative people. And lovely residential neighborhoods with cute bungalows and nice gardens.

And I was more fit from walking up those hills all the time.

  7. Grew up in the Seattle area, currently living in Spokane. Love Seattle’s weather, and love Spokane’s cost of living (well, I prefer it anyway).

The countryside around Spokane is great, but Western Washington blows my eyes out of their sockets every time I visit.

  8. Being able to say, “the Mountain is out today”, and having every native know exactly what you’re talking about.

    Also, “sunbreaks”.

  9. – the hiking there is amazing
    – Mt St Helens is gorgeous, even with its infamous past reputation
    – Mt Olympus is incredible
    – Harry and the Hendersons was partly filmed there and the story took place there

  10. Washington is absolutely one of my favorite states when it comes to natural beauty. Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks, and Snoqualmie Falls are all spectacular. But even just regular drives between places feel pleasant with so much greenery and scenic backgrounds.

Been to Seattle many times for both fun and for work, and find it to be a cool city with a lot to see and do, and I never found it boring. The musical impact the city/region has had also cannot be overstated, producing the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and so many more.

Never been to some other places such as North Cascades, but would love to visit them as well.

  11. There’s Cougar gold in my fridge and I have a love for Chukar cherries.

  12. We used to take family vacations to WA when I was a kid because my dad grew up in Olympia, and here are 3 things I remember from that time:

    1. Fish ladders!
    2. An ill-fated visit to the Point Defiance zoo where I learned that sea otters have prehensile penises
    3. If they were in season, my mom would bring an empty bag with to fill with Rainier cherries to bring home

Bonus 4th thing! Picking blackberries (or maybe marionberries?) in my grandma’s yard.

  13. Lived there for almost ten years. It has some of the best nature on the continent, some amazing mountains to climb and pretty good beer and wine.

  14. It’s just north of the best state and just south of the best province.

Seriously, tho, very awesome mountains, coffee, seafood.

  15. Accidently summited a mountain in North Cascades in 2021. Then it took twice as long as we thought to get back down, so we had to navigate sharp switchbacks all the way down in the dark. 10/10 made a great story.

  16. I am here to defend Eastern Washington and make sure people know we aren’t all pine trees and mountains. The roll of the landscape here from the glacier movement is so beautiful and unique, the Columbia makes such gorgeous valleys and we have so many waterfalls. There’s a quiet, almost desolate beauty in the empty sage fields and the rocky hills that gets overshadowed (pun intended) by the more populated side of the state but the east side has charm and beauty and draw all its own.

  17. I absolutely love it here and will never leave! Moving here was one of the best decisions of my life. I can’t say enough about the amazing diverse natural landscapes, variety of careers available, friendly people (don’t believe hype about the Seattle Freeze), great food, opportunities for education, and on and on.

One time, I was on the ferry, and was lucky enough that the car was right at the front. So we sat in the car and listened to KING-FM, the classical station. They were playing Beethoven’s Fifth as the ferry sailed stolidly forward, as the sun was just starting to set…

And just as the music swelled to a crescendo and key change, the ferry swung directions, turning directly towards Mount Rainier. It was as though the mountain populated directly in front of my eyes in synch with Beethoven. The pink of the sunset frosted the snow on the mountain, and it stood out so beautifully against the vivid blue sky.

The whole moment was so perfect that if it happened in a movie, I would have scoffed that the filmmakers were being WAY too cheesy. But it did happen!

  18. I go to college up here and everyone is queer and trans and really cool! I know I’m very much in a bubble but I’m relishing being around so many people with shared experiences and community while it lasts
