  1. It’s luxurious to be able to just sit at the shore of a lake, look at the birds and listen to their sound, with absolutely zero risk of feeling cold, even if it’s windy. I’m pretty sure I would not be able to appreciate 20 C temperature nearly as much if it wasn’t for the dark and cold winters. Having said that, reminiscing over the past winter, I really need a strategy to get through the next one. Cold plunges? Yoga? [A new hobby](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcByCG92iDA)? I’ll be planning this.

  2. Today is the Youth and Sports festival in Turkey, and the anniversary of the beginning of the war of independence. All balconies in Izmir must be full of flags now. When I was in school, there were always parades and sport and dance shows etc for which we used to get time off classes to practice. It felt really lame back then, but now I kind of miss it.

  3. There’s a book I had been eying up for a while, since the end of last summer I think. At one flea market downtown, a 1924 annual report for the city of Tampere, and today I finally bought it. There isn’t page numbers going through the entire thing, but I’d estimate it’s about 500-600 pages. Page after page filled with ledgers, who sold what parcel of land for what price, who was elected, who wasn’t, how much deficit city services had and how much leftover there was for some. Riveting stuff.

I was paying for it, and some older guy, also a customer, was hanging around the till. He leaned over to see what book it was, and I made some sarcastic comment about how interesting it is and bla bla bla. He then said “oh, 1924, I think that’s when so-and-so was mayor”. Who the hell knows who the mayor was in 1924 just off the dome? I hardly know how it is now.

Back to 2026 though, Turku voted to build a tram system in their city. Trams are so hot in Finland right now. First Tampere, now Turku. Good to see cities investing in it, it’s been a real success here in Tampere at least.

  4. The county I live in, in Ireland won their first provincial cup in Gaelic Football since 2004, and only the second ever. I went to the celebrations in the town I live in. It was so much fun. They’re in the All Ireland football series now, first game is against Cavan, and the stadium here sold out.

I’m back to training MMA on Thursday, had a few days off because something in my leg didnt feel right.

It’s my sisters birthday on Saturday, for it she asked me to get her, her favourite takeout, a game for her switch, and if we can watch the German football cup final. Pretty simple to do I think.
