About six years ago, during the pandemic while I was still in high school, I had the idea to randomly delete my social media accounts. Fast forward to today, and I feel like that completely dried out my social life. Considering I’m in my early twenties and a lot of people my age communicate through social media, it’s been really hard to establish friendships again.

I genuinely have no idea where to start when it comes to reconnecting with people I once cared about. I also don’t know how to meet new people or how I would even maintain those connections. I feel like I’m in a strange position where my friendships, love-life, and even some family relationships have faded over time without it.

  1. Yea I know how u feel. I was a very weird kid who never had any social media cuz I was insecure about my look so I always tought that if i dont take any pics I dont need any social media bc its essential to upload photos. Then covid shit happened and I got addicted to video games and internet and spend like 4 years not talking to anyone in high school. Only last two years was better but still.

And yes not having social media make other people think that you are weird and living under the rock (people online said it to me many times)

So you have to think if it bother you bc I dont really care about not having many friends

  2. I’m in a similar situation. I’m not active on social media and it does limit the social life.

  3. Its funny. As a mid 50 yo, I’ve had an online presence since the mid-2000s with MySpace, & other than developing friendships across the country & overseas, I haven’t seen much of a payoff re local social life.
Everyone here, IRL, is married or basically on a different level, socially, than me. So I can’t say this is like when I was a member of chat room X, in say 2009, and we all were on the same level, wishing we were near each other so we could socialize IRL. Even trying to socialize with locals is proving WAY harder than socializing with those on some subReddit or FB page but live far away.
    Damndest thing! 😐

  4. I primarily use it to keep up with local community events such as workouts, markets and meetups for hobbies I’m interested in. A lot of organizations forgo a website and exclusively use Instagram/Facebook. It’s been great for meeting like minded people that way.

  5. to meet new people you have infinite solution honestly, job, hobbies, just going out and talk to people, vacation, everywhere if you know how to social a bit, not too much but a bit is actually enough to make new friends around the world
