A man has you at gun point, out in the woods, a shovel in your hand, and demands you start digging.

Don't get me wrong. You are not innocent. You crossed someone, or owe someone money, or you just fucked up.

You're going to die. You can't talk, fight, beg, or buy your way out.

Why do you dig your own grave? Die and let the gunman break a sweat. Fuck him.

  1. It buys time in case the deus decides to come out of the machina.

    >tagged “financial experiences”

    You uhhh okay?

  2. ROFL at the “financial experiences” tag… I’m going to guess in most of these cases the gunman does some mental manipulation like acting like you have a chance to live or they might have even gone into it claiming you were digging it for someone else

  3. Delaying inevitable and holding out hope they will change their mind or someone will rescue you.

  4. I’ll take a swing at him with the shovel. If he shoots me, he shoots me, he can do the digging. Maybe I get lucky.

  5. Well see the thing is…im not particularly very brave…and im also not very good at digging holes…so id probably end up dead in a very shallow grave so at least my remains would be found

  6. I would start to dig the grave and then when he gets comfortable I’m going to dig a grave, and a hole like that takes a long time to dig let’s face it, and that gunman’s going to get bored of doing nothing but pointing a gun at me. He’s going to get distracted and I’m going to boss him up with my shovel. It’s not a big chance but it’s all I got.

  7. In some situations a man might if he thinks the end result is merely being terrorized into digging his own grave then being left to lie in it contemplating just what led him to this position. If I know I’m not leaving and whoever has a gun to my head is fully committed to putting me in that hole, he’s gonna have to earn it. That’s six feet and 255lbs of dead asshole you’re gonna have to bury, enjoy hacking at the dirt until I fit in your piss poor planning excuse for a crime scene.

  8. Well they can make threats about people you care about.. do torture things. The way I see it, it’ll buy you some time with a viable weapon in your hand, and the ability to spray dirt with it.

  9. With hopes they don’t kill you and it’s just a game. Just like Omer in Gaza recently the Israeli hostage they videotaped him in a tunnel. They made him dig his own grave but it was just psychological torture. He’s free today and doing ok.

  10. Fear, disbelief, hope and that much longer to live. Guarantee OP would be digging like most.

  11. I think you really need to try imagine like the actual stakes of that situation.

Even if you have an 0.00001% of not dying by buying time, your going to take it dude lol.

Your literally facing death, I dont think many real life people are going to be like “yeah i rather you just literally kill me right now instead of digging a hole.”

  12. Not one person has gotten this right. Usually the idea is if you dig it yourself the death will be quick and painless, if you don’t they’ll draw it out and make it much worse. The nazis would torture you if you didn’t.

  13. I wouldn’t.

I would take the shovel, get some digging in, and then on the return stroke from dumping some dirt, let out a blood curling roar and hurl that fucking thing at him with all my might and then charge him.

If I startle him badly enough that I tackle him before he shoots me, I’m not an unarmed man in a gunfight. We have to finish this wrestling match to figure out which one of us is the unarmed man in a gunfight.

If I nailed him with the shovel, great, if I can get the gun away from him I have a gun *and* a shovel to beat the guy to death with.

Then I take his cell phone and call 911. His family or the state will take care of his grave.

  14. Dig, throw some dirt in the dude’s face, get the gun from him, shoot him, continue to dig the hole to bury him. Simple.

  15. It’s human nature to prolong the inevitable. The vast majority of people dig, hoping beyond hope that they can get out of this. When they realize it’s futile, they break down.

  16. My perfectly timed Spetznatz backflipping shovel throw gives me a 73.7 percent chance of success.

  17. I wouldn’t. If someone tries to take me away at gunpoint I’m fighting back right then and there. Never let someone take you to a second location. Fight back. Your odds of survival, however slim, decrease even more if you let the crook take you to a location they have chosen.

At the very least your death is in a public place so your body gets found and your family have closure.
