We were discussing a little yesterday about China… I’m thinking of going back for a visit, probably next year rather than this one.
I spent a lot of time there, mostly in the 90s, though my last visit was in 2018.
I know they have opened up the visa-free process a lot recently, now many more nationalities can go there for up to 30 days without needing a visa.
If you have been to China, would you like to return there? Why/not?If you haven’t, would you like to go? It’s a place that tends to attract little publicity as a tourist destination, though they have a huge number of domestic tourists.
I’m reading about the writer of Winnie the Pooh,AA Milne.
The story is based on the area where he lived,in England.Christopher Robin was his real life son.
I learned that his science teacher at school was…HG Wells!
Do you know the story of Winnie the Pooh? If so, the original books or the Disney version?
Not long ago our licence plate font had a change made to it. They changed the Y. You can see it [here on the bottom row](https://images.sanoma-sndp.fi/9b0aa53a6585ddacfda239e7b0439ffb/normal/978.avif), old Y is on the left and new Y on the right.
I’ve now seen the new Y twice in the wild and it looks so wrong. It doesn’t really match any of the other letters. I mean, it does match the X, but since when is the Y supposed to match the X? Apparently the old Y was too easy to confuse with V or something. I don’t know. This change might have ruined Finland for me. New Y looks so stupid. Or maybe I’ll get used to it.
Whoa. A Finnish hiking youtuber, Ali Leiniö, has died during a ski tour, of a sudden medical issue. He was in his late 40’s I think, and very liked. Having come from a troubled background and turned his life around, his videos were calming, laid-back, and had zero bravado. He was trained as a wilderness guide. I’m willing to bet his videos inspired many to do hiking, as he showed both how easy a lot of it is, but how you’ll also want to be safe when conditions become difficult.
Can’t remember being this shocked upon hearing news of a media personality before, to be honest. Probably has something to do with how ‘himself’ he was in his videos, his communication felt like he was definitely not playing a role or anything.
I looked up my hometown Szombathely on reddit just to see what comes up. Massive Asbestos contamination in a suburban part of the city. Turns out the gravel is from the same quarries that were closed in Burgenland this year, due to Greenpeace’ investigations. Seems like other places in Austria and Hungary are affected aswell.
Since reading No Longer Human and listening to the video essay about it YouTube keeps giving me “here are the books that will crash your soul!” recs. I wonder how many of these I should read.
Yesterday I tried an app for identifying bird sounds. One of them was a warbler, which in German is called Grasmücke apparently (which means grass mosquito). It is funny and also kind of cute.
I got into a fight with someone today because I didn’t respond to their message for a few hours. I don’t like how it can be sometimes these days.
