It’s extremely windy this morning in Palermo, with heavy rain during the night (though that has stopped now).
I nearly broke another coffee cup just now when I opened the window shutters, the wind blew the window into the cup and knocked it over but didn’t break it!
It’s going to be a fun day…I think I’ll walk to work and leave the scooter in the garage.
Foggy start in Paris!
Hello, everyone. The Monday that passed, I had to go to Athens for a gift change. My return with the bus was accompanied by heavy rain.
My favourite Antônio Carlos Jobim song is Triste, and I wanted to play it so I looked up sheet music for it. [The melody and changes](https://i.imgur.com/bQ3PGlc.mp4) are so pretty. I really love playing bossa nova on guitar, especially chords and especially Jobim. There’s always such satisfying motion between chords.
Anyway, good thing about Jobim’s music is that the Jobim Institute in Brazil maintains a web page which has all kinds of info about Jobim and his music, including a plethora of sheet music. Sometimes you can even find Jobim’s original hand written scores there. So you know it should be right, considering it comes straight from the source.
For Triste there, basically at one point there is an accidental missing. It confused me a little first, but no big deal. I listened to Jobim’s recording from Wave, and it’s played the way I thought it was, not the way it was written in the sheet music. Then I looked at a bunch of other sources and they all had the accidental, like I thought it should have. I feel a little betrayed by the Jobin Institute, and I’d like to declare that they no longer enjoy my full confidence.
What’s strange about Triste is that Jobim played it in A major, a very famous recording with Jobim and Elis Regina is in G major, but somehow as a jazz standard it’s usually played in Bb major. Most sheet music you find for it is in that key. I looked around, and apparently nobody knows where the key of Bb major comes from. People just for some reason started to play it in it.
I went to the hairdresser to get the newest tea. Unfortunately all tea there’s to be had is about the economy nowadays. Apparently the chamber of barbers and hairdressers wanted to increase the haircut fee to 2500 lira. My hairdresser said screw you because nobody would pay that. I paid 600. It’s okay.
When I was waiting for the hairdresser to be free, I sat in front of the shop after buying myself a banana milk. The package said 13 lira, the shopkeeper said 15 and I paid 14,5. It was all the change that I had. Unfortunately it’s now 180 ml. I remember it used to be 200. It still has 0,1% banana, though. That didn’t change.
The best way to drink it is to blow air into the box and let it flow into your mouth. But it may spill in your shirt, so be careful.
