Lots of Posts on the travel subs about snakes recently…there seem to be many people convinced that visiting (say) African or Asian countries you are going to come across them everywhere!
Of course lots of people have some kind of fear or phobia about these reptiles.
How often do you see a ‘wild’ snake in your country/where you live? Have you ever randomly come across one while travelling somewhere else?
This morning I’m listening to Eric Dolphy’s ‘Out to Lunch’.
Anyone like (or hate) this album?
Congratulations to the ladies of the Faroe Islands for their handball victory over Spain in the world cup
I tried to make some shortbread yesterday, but I think I got something wrong, though it ought to have been an easy recipe. The taste is fine, but they don’t really have the crumbly texture that shortbread should have. So, I just ended up with a batch of butter cookies
I had an odd mission last night. A bit before midnight I saw a guy walking on the ringroad, which is a motorway. Super dangerous, I’ve already called the police multiple times because of this since I’m afraid people are looking to walk under a semi-truck or there’ll otherwise just be a horrible accident. He was in such a spot where I could exit the motorway, drive to a parallel surface road, park there and start yelling at him and ask if he is okay.
He walked over to me and said he was okay. He said his car ran out of fuel, and was carrying a plastic bag with empty bottles and a 5 litre canister filled with petrol. Ok, checks out. He had a slightly raggedy appearance, but seemed relatively clean, wasn’t aggressive, wasn’t drunk, and didn’t seem high, so I offered to help him and give him a lift to his car. At this point he tells me he doesn’t know where his car is. He wasn’t from around here and had gotten lost while walking.
So I start to gather information to try and triangulate where the car might be based on what he describes. What was the place like where it happened, how long did you walk for, what kind of buildings did you walk past, which fuel station did you get the petrol at, et cetera. At this point the story starts to make absolutely no sense.
According to him his car ran out of fuel on the motorway and he pulled off to a bus stop. There aren’t any bus stops on the motorway. He says he was driving from district A to district B, but where I picked him up was district fucking Y nowhere near those two. The story was he took the wrong turn somewhere. Then he says he didn’t go to a fuel station to get the petrol, but a local friend of his brought it to him. But the local friend was in some kind of a hurry that they couldn’t stay and help him any longer.
So why didn’t this friend just bring the fuel to the car? None of it made any sense. I started asking questions to gauge if he was high on something, like what kind of a car it is (thinking is there even a car), where is he from, does he come to Tampere often, etc etc. Answers made sense, but the story didn’t at all. He didn’t seem super high, but at times he kinda drifted off somewhere. Maybe stressed about the situation, maybe a bit high on something, hard to say.
After about 30 minutes of driving around with him trying to find this car I proposed he should continue the search the next day during daylight and if there was some place I could take him to for the night. He said his friend lives in district B, where he was initially going to. I asked which street, he said he didn’t remember. That I should drop him off in the parking lot of a supermarket there since he knows how to walk from there to the friend’s place. So that’s what I did. Sent him off to the night, at least he wasn’t wandering on the motorway anymore.
It was a weird experience, driving around for half an hour with some slightly bum looking stranger who probably hallucinated running out of fuel.
I finally watched Frankenstein (the new one)… Or at least halfway 😅 I really didn’t like it. But my friend who also loves the book really enjoyed it. It be like that, I guess. They did have a good monster, though. It wasn’t green or anything.
How many muscles are in a human leg? I tried a new morning sport-stretch routine yesterday with some side lunges and now my legs are hurting. I am not a sedantary person, I bike, run, row, stretch regularly… But the moment you do some exercise you’re not used to, it hurts. I would have thought that all my muscles are thoroughly used by now.
