With Halloween coming up, I’m too far away from the Rhine to be a big fan of dressing up, but I actually don’t mind listening to the topical “spooky” music.
Do you have any songs that you would put on any Halloween playlist?
My first choice would probably be [Concrete Blonde’s “Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX1MjyL0DPY), about someone who wakes up after a one night stand only to discover that their lover must have been a vampire…
[Yesterday’s prompt was onion!](https://www.deviantart.com/tereyaglikedi/art/Inktober-2025-Day-27-Onion-1257355094) Yes, it’s an onion. Don’t look too close.
The end of the month seems farther and farther away. But I can’t give up now.
I got a phone call from my brother quite late last night, which is unusual. It seems like there was an earthquake, magnitude around 6 (but not directly in Izmir) which gave my mom quite a fright. I talked to her for a bit and she was quite calm afterwards. Luckily nothing worse happened. Earthquakes can be quite scary, even if they don’t damage anything.
Now’s the kind of weather which makes it impossible to choose clothing for exercise (biking jogging etc). If you choose to be warm in the beginning, you are too warm after 15 mins. If you want to be okay later, you freeze in the beginning. Layers don’t work as well because it’s a pain to take stuff off and put them on when you’re moving.
Earlier this year I walked across the Rhine from Strasbourg to Kehl. Was quite spectacular
Rosalía’s 4th album is set to be released early next month. I don’t see myself as a fan of any musician, but Rosalía is one of those currently working musicians I’m always excited to hear new music from.
I randomly listened to her first album Los Ángeles when it came out. It’s a nuevo flamenco album and I don’t typically listen to flamenco, but back then I was studying flamenco rhythms and checking out what new flamenco music was released in Spain. And I really loved Los Ángeles, it’s a great album.
So when her 2nd album El mal querer was set to be released I was excited to hear it. And that album, it’s so fantastic. It’s a pop album, but has just such an inventive and interesting mix of flamenco and contemporary pop elements. One of my favourite albums from the past 10 years.
Then she did it again, her 3rd album Motomami was extremely good. I didn’t quite like it at release as much as El mal querer, it abandoned a lot of the flamenco and introduced more reggaeton and dancehall elements instead. At that point in time I thought the tresillo sound was very overplayed, but now after some time has passed I like Motomami almost as much as El mal querer.
I was expecting this 4th album, titled Lux, to be more of a continuation of the Motomami sound. But yesterday the first single Berghain was released and Jesus Christ it’s so good and straight up baroque pop. I’m so excited to hear this album now. It seems that Rosalía just cannot miss.
It looks like the Gaza ceasefire will end again. There’s been violations of it by both sides. But this time, Israel seemed to have escalated the airstrikes, and Hamas refused to hand over a body.
