If they’re not publicly traded, they don’t have to publicly report any of this stuff. If you can’t find them on Glass Door or LinkedIN, I’d be a little wary.
Publicly traded companies have to file specific paperwork. If the company is publicly traded then you could search for terms like “*company name +* Annual Report” or “*company name* + Proxy Filing” and do some digging.
I’m not sure if there is a way to track privately held companies in a similar manner though.
And just because a company isn’t publicly traded doesn’t make it fishy…and I guess that tbh just because a company *is* publicly traded doesn’t mean it can’t *also* be fishy…
That information is not required to be published. That is not, in and of itself, fishy in any way.
Is there something else about the company that seems suspicious?
Most companies are not required to make that information public. Only publicly traded companies (that is, companies with their stock listed on an exchange like NYSE or NASDAQ) are required to publish that sort of information. Any other company may be as secretive about it as they want.
Unless this job is with a large, publicly traded company, it’s very unlikely that you’re going to find this information on the internet.
There’s no real way to track the company financials if they’re a private company. I do suggest you look for the following red flags
* check the company’s LinkedIn page. No LI page can be a red flag
* check Glassdoor for reviews. Check the rating and comments
* if they ask you for any upfront money it’s a scam
* the better business bureau may have some information. https://www.bbb.org
* review the information here: https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/job-scams
This is the federal trade commission site on employment scams.
Hope this helps
Go on the companies website, scroll to the bottom of the page, select “investor relations”, look for “Quarterly fillings” and read the most recent 10Q/10K they filed.
This is assuming they are a public company. If they are a private company they won’t have to report.
What does the job entail/what industry
If they are publicly traded, you can find their 10-K on EDGAR. It’s how I analyze stocks I am going to potentially buy for liquidity, solvency, and profitability.
Okay guys thank you all:)
Have you tried Glassdoor? They saved me more than once.
