What is your favorite spot where you live ?

  1. In my house, itā€™s the garden. Itā€™s a family home and my grandmother had left the garden grow wild for a decade and a half, so the rose bushes are huge, iris and columbines pop up all over the backyard, and the apple treeā€™s branches arch over a great spot to sit and read (with a constant company of grackles, robins, and mockingbirds). We only mow once a month or so, so there are bees and butterflies constantly visiting.

In my town, itā€™s a used bookstore that only vaguely organizes their products by genre. The books are haphazardly stuffed onto shelves and are stacked along the aisle floors. I can find books in almost any language that I want to learn and translate, I can find copies from my favorite french author, I can find collections of poetry published in the nineteenth century that are perfect for pressing flowers or love letters into. I grew up in this town, and thatā€™s been my favorite spot quite literally since I literally learned how to read.

  2. My house, specifically my garden. I live in London so I donā€™t have the biggest garden but Iā€™m just grateful to have one at all. A few years back I turned over my lawn and planted a little tiny wolf flower meadow. In one corner, I put in a little pond but I tried to make it look as natural as possible, like itā€™s supposed to be there. I love it because it attracts lots of wildlife – I know I have hedgehogs at least living in my garden. I decided to go a big crazy with the borders and I wanted lots of texture and colour. I planted lots of shrubs and perennials but also salvia, foxgloves, lavender, pampas grass. I donā€™t have fences around my garden, I have walls, so I have lots of climbers – honeysuckle and clematis. I also have lots and lots of pollinator favourites like borage, coneflower, cow parsnip, daisyā€™s, snapdragonsā€¦ basically my garden is as colourful, full and eclectic as my house.

  3. 100% in my house šŸ˜‚ even when I step out, I always look forward to coming home.

  4. The deck at my SILs house. It used to be my in-laws house and was a great place when my druggie BIL was in jail and after he died. It’s right on the river so the deck overhangs the river.

  5. My house is built right into the side of a mountain ridge. When I climb up the ridge there is a spot in the woods where I can perch myself and see over the top of the house and enjoy a beautiful view of the rolling hills and wide open fields. My favorite time of the year is Fall when the air is crisp- the splashes of colors from the trees on the mountains are breathtaking to me.

  6. Thereā€™s a particular street I like. It has a fire station and not to sound like a child but I like seeing a good olā€™ fire engine. Thereā€™s a wool shop I really like there and I know the owner and I go to a crochet class there every Saturday with a bunch of elderly women. Itā€™s just a very peaceful area

  7. A 21-mile stretch of two-lane highway that winds beside a stream between 2 mountains. (Especially during the shift change for the State Police.)

  8. Random Florida ducks just so casually walking around freaking adorable!šŸ¦† . You go to the beach and see people walking their dogs because so prettyšŸ¶ and then…… A GIANT SWAN APPEARSšŸ¦¢šŸ˜Æ so the dog starts grawling at the swan and the swan is like WAT!?šŸ˜

  9. Thereā€™s a smallish park by my house I call the pitty park because 9/10 times I go thereā€™s at least one person who will let me pet their hippo and it makes me so happy

  10. Inside my house? I love the little book by the window where I can look out. A flowering dogwood is in my field of vision as well as some wild flowers. Perfect place to read. Or my bed; sleep is nice

On my property but not inside? By my fish pond

In my town area? Thereā€™s this nature trail that meanders along a cliff that overlooks a river with tons of trees framing it. Itā€™s not super busy either. Itā€™s nice.

  11. The beach. It was sooooo nice when I first moved here, 22 years ago. Itā€™s an off the beaten path kinda place and I could go there and not another soul. Itā€™s not that way anymore but still not body to body like super popular beaches.
So I still love it. Itā€™s the only place I find myself truly at peace -peace from my own mind.
