What state do you want to move to when you retire?

  1. First I want to buy a small RV/camper van and spend a couple years mostly on the road exploring.

Then I’ll probably get a small cottage on a lake and then another small winter home somewhere warm. The location of which may depend on the social and political climate of the day.

  2. I’m partial to northern mountains and prefer the west coast of the country so it’s either Washington or Alaska for me.

  3. I’ll probably just stay in Iowa, but I’d like to travel as much as I can. I enjoy living here

  4. When I retire retire? Because I’m already retired once. But when I finally retire, assuming I’m in my 60’s or whatever, I’m not sure if I want to retire in the states or not.

Having lived a number of years in Europe, I thought about moving back there. I really loved living in Italy and the UK, the life style, the people and culture.

However, the problem with that is I’m not sure what my interests will be at the time. Right now, I’m retired in Las Vegas and I love the out doorsy stuff. The hiking, the night sky. I can’t get either of those anywhere in Europe (at least no where I’ve seen) and, they may not even be a hobby when I get older.

  5. I live in Western Washington now and plan to stay, but will probably do Southern California/Palm Springs in the winter when the rain and dark becomes too much.

  6. I don’t foresee wanting to move to another state. I plan to retire here in California, just like my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents did.

  7. I have a condo on Maui that I might retire in unless something unforeseen happens. I wouldn’t mind wintering here in Arizona and summering in Hawaii.

  8. Out west.

Anywhere from, and including, New Mexico to Montana.

    Unfortunately it’s expensive lol

  9. I won’t be retirement age for a long, long time but I think Hawaii or Portland OR would be good.

  10. Somewhere warm, near a large body of water, that I can afford. I’ll probably end up staying in PA. 🙄

  11. Someplace I won’t need a car to get around so that once I age out of being able to drive safely I won’t be stuck in my house. Hopefully my city will be like that in ~30 years but if not, well, I’m moving.

  12. No explicit plans to move. Depends a lot on what my kids are up to and what our relationship looks like, I suppose.

  13. Honestly? None. I’d rather go over to some small NATO country in Europe, where the living is cheaper. Portugal or Estonia maybe. Depends on how I deal with the cold when I get older. I know I won’t be able to afford to stay in NJ, I can go live cheap and still have the protection of the US military

  14. California until I day. If *anything* just move back to my parents house, which is in the same metro.

  15. I’m only 39; I expect climate change over the remainder of my working life to affect my decision when the time comes.

20 years ago, I would have said Arizona or New Mexico in a heartbeat. I love the desert, I love the history of the American Southwest, and I love the food. But they don’t have the climate resilience they’ll need to be habitable 30 years in the future.
