I’ve been on a couple of dates with a guy and we are seeing each other about once a week. It’s my (M, 39) 40th birthday in a couple of weeks and I’ve started planning a meal with drinks after with half a dozen of my close friends.

Is it too early to invite him (28) to come along? He hasn’t yet met any of the people who will be at the party, but obviously that can be fixed beforehand so he’s not overwhelmed by *new people*, and I’d prime my friends to be gentle and not interrogate him.

Is he more likely to think I’m moving way too fast by inviting him, or excluding him if I don’t?

  1. He won’t feel left out – its very early to invite him. However, I wouldn’t say that means it’s TOO soon, but only you can know that and it’s dependant on a number of factors (e.g. have you only ever known him as a date or was he a friend before, for example).
