I have no delusions this will be a quick process. Especially reading up on everything “gym”. But I do think there is probably an optimal way I could keep the process moving forward.

I’ve posted here a few times in as many months. You’ve all given fantastic advice as well so I just wanted to pick people’s brains a bit more.

Since late July/early august I’ve gone from around 185lbs to hovering at a respectable 198-200 lbs. Which is a mixture of muscle and fat.

Unlike most people, I would guess (?), it actually feels really good to have a little of “pudge” after being closer to the low side of a healthy BMI (I’m 6’3) my entire adolescent/young adult life.

So, acknowledging that I’m not going to be able to gain another 20 or even 10 lbs as fast as I did initially…

Do I just keep doing what I’m doing but just do more of it?

  1. You gained 15 lbs in about 2 months, unless you went crazy and roided up, most of that weight was fat. So just keep eating if that’s what you want. Unless you are on some weird deadline to gain weight, it’s better to gain that in muscle instead. You’d look way better.

  2. Transition from a dirty to a clean bulk. You don’t necessarily need to do a serious cut but a bit of fasting on off days and switching to coke zero for a bit will help while being minimal on lifestyle changes since all you really need to do is make some very slight changes and maybe skip breakfast once in a while. I don’t think eating “just” chicken and broccoli and rice like some people do is necessarily viable long term for every meal but you’ll probably want to count your macros a bit as well when you can. There’s a lot of food that’s surprisingly sworn by in some circles like some types of frozen pizza and chocolate milk.

You don’t necessarily need to worry a lot *right now*, but it’s best to build good habits early. We’re at the furthest point from swimsuit season and going into the holidays, so it’s probably a good time to bulk but you don’t want to have to totally change your life in like, February, to desperately drop 50lbs before you stop layering clothes in the spring.

  3. Diet is 80% of your physique. you can be completely inconsistent in the gym but if your diet is on point youll look great. make sure you eat enough protein about .8 to 1 gram per lb of body weight. figure out your caloric maintenance using calorie calculator online and add on 100 calories every one to two weeks depending how aggressive you want to bulk. allow yourself 1 cheat meal a week. ( cheat MEAL not cheat day) and just enjoy the process man. Its a lifestyle to be fit and if its something you don’t enjoy i recommend you find something that brings you joys and keeps you moving which is much more important than anything else. Good luck my friend
