She and I have know each other for five (5) years, but we’ve only really started hanging out regularly as friends since last year (we’re part of a larger friends group now). A few years ago, we had dinner together twice (she showed me two of her favourite Indian restaurants) after I asked if she’d like to catch up some time. I’d *meant* it as a date, but I got the *impression* at the time that she thought we were just two friends hanging out (but I could be wrong).

She’s heading back to her home country for about a month to see her family. I was thinking of asking her when she gets back. But I’m not sure how to go about asking. I feel like if I try to keep it causal she’ll think I only want to grab coffee together as two friends. But if I ask her in a big way, it’ll be too much and scare her off. I’m not sure what to do. I also don’t *know* if she likes me back.

  1. “Hey, I really value your friendship, but want to explore taking our friendship beyond merely platonic. Want to go for __?”
(Contingent she says yes): “great! It’s a date”
