I’ve seen some good threads about raising boys in a way that would benefit the society, and it’s a good thing. But what do y’all think about things that would benefit the boy himself?

  1. To value ethics, integrity, kindness, consent, curiosity/learning, diversity, empathy, respect for self/others, honesty, inclusion, and the journey itself.

  2. Good people return favors and help each other out. Be a good person and surround yourself with good people. Help other people and other people will help you.

And call out misogyny. Not every man is a misogynist, but every woman is a victim of it. So if you always call it out, you’re always on the side of the majority of all people.

  3. Oh, there are many things I teach my two sons with that aim but first and foremost:

    Be a strong man.

  4. Maybe this is too simple but, basic skills to take care of himself. It’s wild to me how many parents don’t teach their sons how to cook, clean, do laundry etc

  5. I would teach him to be mindful of the company he keeps. Birds of a feather flock together IMO.

  6. Personal accountability. Everyone, no mattet their gender, needs to know their actions have consequences. If you clean your room, then you will have a comfortable space to live in. If you eat proper food, you wouldn’t have tummy aches, etc etc.

Also everyone needs to know how to take care of themselves: basic hygiene, basic cooking, basic mental health hygiene.

And finally, teach him how to choose his friends. Life is game where you need an excellent team to play even with you even when some quests are meant to be done by yourself. You need to carefully select your team with male and female members of all ages to help you get through this thing called life.
