One hour is enough (at least during normal times, there seems to be much chaos there now because staff shortages), but I always take two. I mostly fly from Munich and I always have a beer there. I mean, they have a brewery in the airport.
In the UK the general rule is 1 hour for domestic, 2 hours for EU and 3 hours for international.
This is the UK tho so rules may be slightly different but I would at least give 2 hours at the minimum just to be on the safe side of things.
Usually one hour, with carry on only. However airports are a total shitshow right now, so make it two. More if you’re checking luggage.
Always aimed for 2 hours to be safe. Not EU now obviously, but I did 2 hours before Brexit and I do 2 hours since Brexit too.
The airlines usually say to be close to the gates 40 minutes before the planned departure, because some flights can depart early, and my grandma was once denied boarding in Italy because she showed up only 1 hour early, when the boarding was just finished. So besides the obvious fact I avoid Italy at all costs (there were repeated issues with Italian airports sending off flights too early and denying boarding), I try to be at least an hour early at the gate.
Air travel is a hassle, and I personally hate it, but I try to make it as smooth as possible.
