  1. [Here’s a nice sunset picture for you guys](https://imgur.com/a/sik8Gn8).

Today’s the first day of the sacrifice festival. There are already news of animals at large, running free on streets of big cities. Same old, same old. But you can still see it’s 2026, because politicians who are in jail can broadcast festival greeting videos made with AI. I mean their associates make the videos of course but they look surprisingly real. God help us.

I petted a dog yesterday for a long time. It was very insistent and kept rolling till I hit all the spots. Afterwards I was covered in dog fur and probably fleas and stuff. Luckily I don’t care

  2. I saw there was a meme floating around online about (insert Chinese last name) et al. publishing everything worth publishing in science. China’s scientific paper output is enoumous, but the number of different last names is low which probably caused the issue. Is that why I got spammed with what I thought was was phishing bait emails from academia.com asking me if I published this and that paper when I was an undergrad?

You know what if it paid better without a reputation for an abusive work environment I might consider academia. But there is a reason why graduate programs have a much higher proportion of foreign students than undergrad. I doubt it’s because foreign students love academia more (student visas are easier to get than work ones). Since I’m a US citizen, I might as well try to find the industry with the highest bidder for my labor.

  3. I was listening to some music, and I want to tell you about my favourite rhythm you hear in pop. It’s fairly common to come across it in dance music, a 4:3 polyrhythm, most often but not always the bass against the drums.

What I was listening to was [BFF](https://youtu.be/oGEKhfIM-Wo?si=eGKJgdB1fPOTDVoS&t=38) by Slayyyter, but another examples that come to mind on the spot are [B2B](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr-bX9Wlo_I) by Charli xcx and [Where Are U Now](https://youtu.be/nntGTK2Fhb0?si=uIbwp9XkQvb3Fubv&t=68) by Justin Bieber. Tons and tons of more examples out there.

It just has such a hypnotising, driving force to it. I love it so much, the syncopation is so nice, any dance song with this 4:3 rhythm is instantly just more fun. There’s always a janky lobbed off 8th note too at the end to make the different overlapping sequences line up, which just makes it extra fun for me for some reason. Brings some variance to it so it doesn’t turn into some meditative thing à la Philip Glass or something. Not something you can use a lot though, I feel like one song per album is fine but as soon as it’s multiple it’s just too much of the same thing.

  4. Sometimes when I iron a shirt I only iron the bits that will be visible. Like, if I’m wearing a jacket, I might only iron the front if I know I’m not going to be taking that jacket off. Or if I’m wearing a jumper over it, I might only iron the collar.

    It’s so lazy.

  5. Summer is fast approaching, which makes me lament the narrow scope of what’s acceptable for men to wear in a professional setting. Why can’t I wear shorts?!? Women get to wear skirts and dresses, but I have to wear long pants. It’s unfair, boooo

I’ll be honest, though, even if I could wear shorts to the office, I probably wouldn’t. Shorts and a formal shirt would make me feel like a member of the Hitler Youth. Maybe I should just embrace my southern planter heritage and wear nothing but linen and seersucker for the next few months.
