I thought i was done with Reddit, so excuse my lack of proper post history and such.
Short version, i am trying to get a vasectomy, but i am struggling to find a urologist who will do one for me, all citing the civil litigation aspect of not getting partner approval. I understand its not against the law, that there are no laws preventing them giving me one.
I am 36, clinically i am nearly sterile as is, and i am not entertaining the idea of relationships at this time, however, a few weeks back while out drinking and enjoying myself with friends, our group merged with another, and these college girls that came along with the other group, was left alone at the table with our drinks.
After a trip to the ED, it was determined i had been drugged with a cocktail that made me dizzy, sleepy, and gave me an erection lasting nearly 3 hours (thus the ED trip), so the vasectomy is just me wanting to take precautions just in case.
I am just wondering if anyone else in Maine (US) has been having trouble finding a urologist to do the procedure on the basis they 'might get sued' if i get married later on.
I am not getting married, nor planning to have any kids, as i have a terminal diagnosis (silicosis) and i likely wont even hit 60 before it makes life unlivable.
I have come to reddit, because the 'official' websites that are supposed to help with this, are about as helpful as a bucket of gasoline in a forest fire.

Please explain this “civil litigation aspect of getting partner approval”. I had one 6 months ago and I heard nothing about this. My partner was not involved, and there wasn’t anything in the paperwork that sounded like what you’re referencing.
If you’re married some docs will want the wife to know and be ok with it, but if you’re single I don’t know what the problem is.
I inquired once at 32 and was told they wouldn’t consider it since I had no children and was unmarried. The other said roughly the same thing, so I gave up. No one said anything to me about civil litigation though.
Just saying that you’re not married
