So, I've had a car for a while now but I've never driven it due to a variety of reasons such as driving anxiety and how expensive lessons have become, etc, and it has sat on my driveway for a good few years now, all registered as SORN so fully legal, but it's been a bit of an issue for my in-laws for a while now. They've never engaged in conversation with me about it, just bitched behind my back about it hoping I may overhear I guess, they've been saying for years that I should just cut my losses and sell it before it becomes a more expensive liability rather than an asset I'd be able to use one day, and to be honest it is getting to that point now where I am considering selling it just because I can't see myself actually affording lessons for the foreseeable future. I bought it with the intention of my father-in-law or my wife taking me out in it for private lessons, but neither of them actually wanted to in the end, and the one guy at work I would trust to give me private lessons left not long after I bought it and he moved away, so it has just kind of sat there.
Anyway, just now I hear the in-laws come in from shopping (me, wife, kids, in-laws all live together as one big happy family in a large house), I guess they didn't realise I was home, and they were saying things like "might as well set it on fire", "one way to get rid if it" and "if it has any fuel in it, would it go boom?"… So… What do I make of this? I don't honestly think they would set fire to my car – but I'm not sure how certain I would be. Because it is not insured as it is currently SORN, I wouldn't be covered for any losses here at all, would I? Or could I claim anything on the home insurance as it is on the driveway?
What would you do in this situation?
