My local baseball team has these grab and go concession stands and this season they’ve started to get more aggressive checking people’s ids. It usually happens when I’ve paid and my hands are full with the beer and snacks I’m getting and the attendant comes over wanting to see my id. I’m 41 and I know I don’t look 41 but I certainly don’t look like I’m in my 20s. The attendant tries to play off like I should be glad but personally i feel offended that they don’t trust im old enough to buy beer and I just want to get back to my seat and enjoy the game.

I don’t give a shit
Dude is doing his job.
Yes, I turn 43 today and was carded a few weeks ago. She probably just wanted a tip but it works. I’ll take it…still happens once in a while.
Yes it’s silly, but whatever.
I haven’t been carded in years, even when the self checkout asks for it…the attendant just approved it and walked away.
Not anymore. I’m in my mid 40s with my beard graying. I’m very obviously over 21. Carding me feels performative. But the kid behind the counter or the bar has their job to do too, even if it is performative sometimes.
It’s a mild annoyance when it’s unexpected, like at a bar or sit down restaraunt.
Some people have alcohol restricted licenses.
Like even though the customer is obviously old enough, the server/cashier is *supposed* to be checking everyone for that.
It’s annoying but I’ve been burned by a secret shopper so I get it.
I’m 58 and have a grey beard. When I get carded it’s just funny.
They are just following the rules don’t take it personally and get offended
Having had to id people in the past my line was always “I’m here to check not guess” It also doubled as a sobriety and attitude test but it’s too late if you have already purchased the alcohol.
The problem is when its inconsistent, and they card some people but not others. In my 20s and 30s, I frequently felt hurt because looking young was a big problem i faced in various aspects of life and this only reinforced it, if my friends weren’t carded but I was.
Now that im almost 50, it just is what it is. I dont think anyone actually thinks im under age now.
The only time I like it is when I’m with someone else and they card me but not the other person. But I’ve never been offended or cared if they card me otherwise.
It’s a job and legally they have to. Here if you don’t look 70+,you get carded, to buy alcohol at the liquor mart (provincial monopoly, not a bad thing before anyone says anything), you legally have to give your ID at the door, no exceptions because a number of years ago there was a bad smash and grab wave that affect the province, so now it’s all controlled entrances, thief is basically zero now though so it worked.
I only get annoyed if I’m with friends who don’t get IDed and then they ask for mine.
I dont care
Thats shitty timing on the attendant’s part, but hes doing his job. If you know its coming, you could beat him to it?
I don’t give a shit either way.
Most places around me have a card everyone policy anyways just to avoid any weird guesswork. The system won’t let you ring up liquor/nicotine unless an ID is scanned.
I went to school in Vermont and there was one store in town where you couldn’t use an out-of-state ID so you had to have a passport. They said it was the state law. There was another store in town where you couldn’t use a passport you had to use a license. They said it was state law.
I don’t really care but it also rarely happens these days. I can’t remember the last time someone asked for my ID when buying a drink. That said, the drinking age here is also 18, so if you are visably an adult you usually don’t get carded.
Former bartender. Don’t know the rules for your state, but it mine the standard was to card everyone who might appear under 35.
So if I didn’t see crow’s feet, I’m carding. Throw a fit and I’m refusing service.
I’ve never been carded. I’ve been buying booze since I was 15.

Eh, I just laugh it off. If the worst thing that happens to me in a day is getting carded at 45, it’s a pretty damned good day.
There’s no sense getting annoyed at “security theatre” type stuff. Everyone has got a job to do, and I don’t really to make some poor alcohol vendor/airport security guy/bacon bit’s day worse.
For as long as I can remember (and I did some occasional concession work at a minor league stadium when I was younger) the policy of most venues is to check ID on everyone buying alcohol. No exceptions. I don’t care one way or the other.
Depends on the jurisdiction I guess. Where I live, you’re free required to ask for I’d if the person looks like their under 45 if I remember right. Hell, to get into the provincial run liquor stores in my city you need to have I’d scanned just to get in the building.
Personally, I liked a recent trip to France where I could buy liquor at the grocery store and go through self checkout.
But really though, I have no issues with being carded. They’re doing their job. I guess an alternative would be a sub-dermal microchip that could transmit an 18+ flag so a server with glasses that could read them could just at someone, see that they’re at least 18 and serve them without issue.
I don’t care. They’re doing their job, if they could get away with it most of them would sell to anyone hinting a mustache without a second glance. I don’t want my favorite spots getting fined or shut down because they didn’t card when they should have.
I’d be annoyed if they handed me the alcohol already and I got carded, but only because that doesn’t make sense.
I don’t care either way about getting carded while ordering.
I have always been dumfounded by people who care about being carded. I do not give a shit. It has never been a thought that crossed my mind, just show your ID. The dude can get in trouble if you’re an undercover cop or something.
Not really. I’d prefer not to get carded if I had to pick, but it doesn’t bother me if I do. They have a job to do. I used to work retail, so I get it.
Enjoy? No. Why would I? It’s a nuisance.
But I also don’t care either. It’s like the most mild nuisance there could be. The guy probably has a policy coming from his boss, and I ain’t about to be a dick and make his job more unpleasant just for my own sake.
The legal age is 19 where I live and I am a grey-haired and bearded man with noticeable wrinkles.
It gets a bit annoying after a while but I don’t fuss about it
Do I enjoy it? No.
Do I understand that the other person is simply doing their job and if they were to sell alcohol to minors they may possibly lose their liquor license so they just card everyone regardless of how old they appear? Yes.
I’m a bouncer at a bar on the weekends, and I have to card *everyone* coming in. No exceptions.
Anyone that has a problem with it can leave the property. Nobody is worth losing a liquor license, me losing my job, and likely going to JAIL.
For this reason, it doesn’t bother me. Cashier is just doing their job.
I don’t mind it. I do dislike convenience stores requiring it to be scanned though. Don’t see a good reason for that.
As a service industry guy, it’s not personal; it’s the law, and following the law allows me to sell booze to make a significant portion of our profit in a lean profit margin industry.
If you’d like to see this changed, please ask your local law enforcement to stop outsourcing their job to me. I will happily continue to use my best judgement without threat of losing my liquor license.
