Example: I said to someone in a casual tone, “I didn’t think that episode was funny, so I always skip it.” They gasped and were like, “Oh no, what did they do?” making it clear they thought I was saying it was problematic.
I’m not a perpetually offended person so I don’t think the problem was me, and the show isn’t offensive so it wasn’t about that. It’s just one example of many times I or someone else will say something is not funny, and others will assume they’re upset.
It‘s sort of a light problem, but I figured it would be nice to have more useful phrasing for next time.
