Hi everyone, I’m [20M] looking for some advice or to hear from anyone who has dealt with something similar. I’ve been with my girlfriend [20F] for a long time (long-term relationship), and I love her more than anything. I’m still as interested in her as I was during the "honeymoon phase," but over the past year, a weird problem has come up: I’ve started forgetting about 60% of the information she shares with me.
It’s not just idle chatter. She’ll tell me about her day or her gym progress, but mixed in there are important things we need to decide or plan. When she follows up on something we "discussed," I often have no idea what she’s talking about, or I remember our conversation completely wrong. Naturally, she gets very upset and feels unheard.
This wasn't an issue at the start. Back then, I was thinking about her 24/7. Recently, I went through a period of intense overwork where I had no time for anything. When the workload finally dropped, I started prioritizing my "me-time" and personal space more, and that’s when the memory issues seemed to start.
I want to be a better partner and stay present. Has anyone else experienced this "brain fog" or sudden forgetfulness in a long-term relationship? How did you deal with it?
TL;DR: I [20M] am in a long-term relationship with my girlfriend [20F]. Lately, I've been forgetting most of what she tells me, which makes her feel ignored. Need advice on how to fix this.
