I'm 26, working at a think tank in my home country (non EU). I applied to an Erasmus Mundus master programme, but still waiting on scholarship results.

I have some savings to fund myself for a 1 year master programme in Belgium, but given the state of the world, I'm not sure if self-funded master's is such a wise choice.

I would really like to move abroad, and if the scholarship does not work out this year, I am seriously considering doing a European Solidarity Corps project for a year somewhere. I hope to at least learn or improve a language.

But, I realize that by then I'll be 27, and I'm not sure if it's the right fit for me based on my path right now. I'm essentially looking for a buffer, to do something interesting that will get me out of my country for a year while I wait for another round of applications for master scholarships.

I like the idea of ESC and the different opportunities, I'm sociable but I also REALLY value my personal space and alone time, so I'm not sure if this will be a fit. Another option is to stay in home country and keep applying to traineeships, but the chances for that are quite low as non-EU candidates such as myself are rarely considered, even though I'm from an accession country.

Any advice or recommendation on what to look for, or if anyone would like to share their similar experience, I'd be grateful. Thanks a lot.
