How common was hitting on friends as a joke 20 years ago?

I saw a meme recently that said "on my way to work to hit on someone's dad".

I have definitely done this as a joke with both older coworkers and coworkers my age (20s blue collar)

I was wondering if this is a more common phenomenon today
or if it was common in the workplace and friendships 20 years ago.
