Hello, French immigrant with two pets here. I’m absolutely stunned by the absurd prices I see around me in vet practices. It easily is 2x compared to France. Insurances are absolutely mandatory here. Now, nearby Cambridge, I can only see big names owned by massive companies, and I’ve been told that the vets in there are paid like shit and overworked, even specialists. This, I simply cannot understand. What is preventing people from opening their own practices? In France, the vast majority of practices are independent, and to be honest, vets are very very well off while prices remain much more acceptable. Is it because these big companies are playing with the markets of equipment / insurance such that starting fresh is insanely expensive?
