A good friend of mine (girl) and I had been talking all week about getting drinks together on the weekend. On the day we planned to meet, she spontaneously went on a small trip with another friend. According to her, they expected to be back in time because she had told that friend she already had plans with me. But the trip ended up taking longer than expected, so our plans didn’t happen.
I told her that it made me a bit upset. She apologized and said it wasn’t intentional. The next day we talked on the phone and cleared things up.
However, later that same day when we spoke again, I brought the topic up once more. That’s when she seemed a little surprised about how much energy I was putting into it. I told her I wasn’t mad, I was just sharing my thoughts. She basically said that sometimes plans get canceled and things happen.
From my perspective, we had planned this ahead of time, and by deciding to go on the spontaneous trip she indirectly chose something else over our plans.
Now I’m wondering if I made too big of a deal out of it. I also wonder how my reaction might have made me look from her point of view.
Do you think I’m overthinking this situation? How would you interpret her reaction?
Right now I feel a bit stupid about how much this is on my mind, but on the same time I believe I am the right side of the story.
