My dad came over to England from Ireland in the 1950's – raised 8 kids – and it was a bit of a tough gig for us all.

Anyway he worked in a foundry, where they produce molten metal and mould metal into industrial-shaped materials.

There was not health and safety back then. My dad had to lie about his age. Even back then it was considered such a shit job that you had to be 21yrs old+ to do it. My dad lied about his age at 19 and got the gig.

Over the years he suffered several horrific injuries. Molten metal burning through his boots and having horrible foot injuries. Molten metal spilling down his back.

Bless him, he died at 65, just 3 months after his official retirement date. That work environment was horrific – 130 degres temperature. It took 20 years off his life.

He won't be alone in working environments of his day. I love and miss him. But he sacrificed 20 years of his life in that shocking work place to support his 8 (yes 8, we were Catholic haha) kids.

What shitty jobs did your parents have to endure?
