I don’t mean minor things like what hobbies you enjoy, but rather major life decisions like where you want to live, how you want to spend your time, etc.
Growing up I was always very much a “I’m gonna get out of this podunk town and move to the big city” kind of kid. I loved traveling, going to restaurants, going to concerts, the usual stuff most younger people like. I went to NYC for grad school and ended up living there for around a decade. I also met my wife there and our 2 children were born there.
Now, 10+ years later, pretty much everything about that lifestyle repulses me. Travel/vacations? Why, I’d rather just work on stuff around our house. Restaurants? Why, I’d rather just go to the grocery store and cook a meal at home. Apartment/downtown living? Why, I can buy a house with a ton more space, a yard, and no shared walls.
Obviously I think these things happen to most people as they age but I figured it would come at a much later point — I mean I’m still in my 30s. Curious if other people around my age feel similarly or if I’m basically now just a boomer trapped in a millennial’s body.
