Lately, I’ve been having more existential dread regarding the future and I’m having a hard time quelling it. For context, I’m a consultant and my wife is a medical professional. We’re doing pretty well today but there are current external trends – in my case, AI, in her case, continually falling insurance reimbursements and hospital failures – which could end up shrinking our professional fields, leading to potential irreversible job loss. Either one of us losing our jobs for an extended period of time would seriously hurt our finances, but both of us would be disastrous. Right now we’re doing well with no debt except for our mortgage, retirement savings, 1 yr emergency fund, etc. but that can change in a minute.
Outside of the obvious (save for a rainy day, constantly upskilling), how do you guys manage the stress? How do you convince yourself things will be okay 20 years from now?
