Do American schools ever do oral exams? Where I'm from (Slovenia) they're mandatory two times per year in almost every subject in school. You answer around 3 questions (and subquestions if you are struggling) in front of the entire class. I know that might be a little bit controversial because it can be really intimidating to answer in front of the whole class and you have little time to think. Also, when I attended primary school some teachers played a lottery every period where they picked one random student by their position in "the alphabet" (we're all sorted alphabetically by last name in the grade book).
I've never seen an oral exam depicted in American media – do you only have written exams?
