Do you think you have been in more or fewer states than most Americans? Why have you visited so many/few?

  1. All of them and American Samoa.

Edit for 2nd part of the question:My wife and I are teachers so we have time off in the summer, so once our kids were grown we just travel in a camper van around the US. We both had a good chuck of the states down so once we decided to knock off the rest of the states it took 3 summers driving from the west coast. One summer we hit the north east border staes and upper east coast, then the south east, and the one summer just for Alaska.

  2. Like 14 or so? I don’t know if that’s few or many. I live out west where the states are huge.

  3. Define “visited”

Stepped foot in? Did a plane layover there? Drove through? Spent an overnight in? Are a meal there?

What does “visited” mean to you?

  4. I’ve been to like 37 I think. I would guess that’s more than average. I would guess that a majority of Americans have been to less than ten states.

  5. 23. I have no intention to visit every state, but I’m working through every national park.

  6. For pleasure/vacation, 10. Business, all of ‘em and all the territories. Wish I had more time in a few of them though

  7. 6. I’m keen to see more. I lived in England for a time and I swear people there have visited more states than I have.

  8. 49/50…so I’m going with a lot more. Also 6/10 Canadian provinces, and 2/3 Canadian territories.

Need to find a cheap flight to Hawaii soon. 😀

  9. I’ve made it to 40. It would be more if I count driving through without stopping or just stopping for gas or a quick meal, but I only count a state if I’ve stopped to experience something.

I would definitely say I’ve seen more than the average American.

  10. Okay, let’s see. I live in Pennsylvania and have visited New York, New Jersey, Maine, Maryland, Florida, Carolina (can’t remember if it was north or south. I think north), and Tennessee. I’ve also been to Puerto Rico, which is a US territory.

  11. All but Alaska….I’m coming for you Alaska!

Edit: Sorry I didn’t read the 2nd part. More than most for sure. I work as a technician in the Documentary TV world, so lots of travel shows, food shows, politics etc. Plus I just like to travel, and work gets me a bunch of rewards miles.

  12. All 50, but a handful I’ve only driven through or spent the night, so my new goal is to have an alcoholic beverage in each state. I’ve got 7 left for that

  13. I honestly haven’t counted but I am pretty sure about 40 but could be a few more but those were only drive throughs — not really experiencing them in any meaningful way.

  14. 48. Missing Mississippi and Alabama. How? Good question.

I like to drive and I like to go National and State Park hunting. Hot a passport book and everything!

And I have been to Guam. Man guam was so beautiful

  15. 40. Just visited VT, NH, and ME last month to add to the count. I’d like to hit the remaining states in the next 5 years.

  16. I have visited about 17 states, and lived in 5. I honestly feel a bit sad that I’ve seen so little of the US relatively speaking, because I used to live overseas, and know other (way smaller) countries better than I know my own. But the US is just so big, and I don’t have the time and money at my disposal to see everything that I would like to. For example, I have not explored the South as much as I would like. There are TONS of national and state parks I haven’t been to. I have a list of “places to see in the US” that I add to whenever I come across their mentions that I hope to visit one day.

  17. Not sure of the exact number as some I’ve just driven through on trips to other places, but about 45. I’ve lived in 9 states, and traveled for work and pleasure to or through the others. I’m confident I’ve been to more than most Americans.

  18. 44, which I imagine is far more than most. I’ve lived in seven states in every corner of the country, so it just sort of happened driving around to get places.

  19. Last count I was around 44 however I’ve moved across country a few times (Driving) so was able to knock off a bunch that way

  20. California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New York, New Jersey, Colorado

  21. I’ve been to about half. I live in the northeast, where the states are smaller, so it’s easy to visit more of them than if I lived out west. I haven’t been to much of the middle of the country because I don’t know anyone there to visit and the places that interest me are mostly elsewhere. I would like to visit Hawaii and Alaska, but they’re very far, and my budget hasn’t allowed me to go there yet.

  22. 14, 10 West, 4 East. States are bigger out west, so it’s harder to make those kinds of trips, you end up going to the same relatively close places. And then there’s the money, most people just don’t have enough for big trips across the country. When I went to the east coast it was for work before they shut down almost all travel.

  23. Only like 6-7 properly.

I’ve had layovers in a few states though. I wouldn’t say I’ve visited California, but I’ve technically been there twice.

  24. About half (24/50 if my count is right). I am not counting states if I was only in an airport, which rules out Texas and Georgia.

Probably more than the average person – I travel for work semi-frequently.

  25. I’m missing Maine, Massachusetts, Arkansas, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Arizona, and Alaska.

  26. For reference, I’m 40F, lived in the midwest my whole life. I think I’ve been to 23 states; never traveled out of the country. I would love to travel more, but it’s expensive! When we travel as a family, we usually stick to the few states within reasonable driving distance (~6 hours or so).
