I needed some butter beans recently but the shop was out of the usual tins I got. The only option was some in jars at about 3 times the price I usually pay. I've always dismissed the ones in jars as a marketing gimmick aimed at Waitrose shoppers ('we saw you coming' prices), but actually, wow, never going back to tinned ones again now! Where else have you seen a couple of quid transform the quality of something?
I'm also conflicted now, as if EVERYTHING gets that much better as you up the price my shopping bill is going to go up massively, which I can't afford, or I know I'm going to to be missing out on the good things, which I'll hate…
So – what unexpected things are really worth the extra, and where does the extra expense make no difference?
