I think it's fair to say that at the moment things can seem a bit grim and it's tempting to say that nobody cares but I'm always taken aback by how much some people do for their community. A lot of it is really selfless and often thankless, too. Some of it is legitimately heroic (RNLI for instance) but even the mundane stuff like maintaining flowerbeds or volunteering once in a blue moon at a kids sports club is really important.
I asked this question on this sub a couple of years ago but I think it might be nice for other people to read about what other people are up to, if anything.
Personally I do far less than some people but I do spend a couple of hours each week litter picking and I give blood when I can, which I've always seen as a donation of time above all else as blood can be replenished.
