Mooooorning

My dehumidifier broke this morning (RIP), it was just a cheap one from B&Q. However, I don’t think I want to live without one. That one wasn’t very good, but very much a game changer. I only use it to dry clothes, my house doesn’t get mouldy/damp. Essentially, I’m considering a maeco Arete one. Not sure the difference between the one and two? The room is roughly 15-20 degrees most days. The only sticking point is potentially considering the desiccant DD8L pro, but is this over kill for drying cloths indoors? The room is big with high ceilings. Want to order today, but a bit overwhelmed with all the choice. What do other people use?

  1. Meaco are the best. I got a princess from B&Q, was half price.
The difference in the two you’re looking at are probably litres per day

  2. I highly recommend the Meaco Arete, ours gets a lot of use and has never skipped a beat it’s been brilliant over the last couple of years.

  3. Out of interest which one did you buy and how long did it last as friend is about to buy one from B&Q..

  4. Desiccant dehumidifiers work best in a coldish room. If the room is warm, it reduces its ability to absorb. Not a fan, personally, compressor dehumidifiers are generally more effective, but some people seem to like them.

  5. Got a couple of the meaco 12L units. Always on.

One in the office garden room which is only heated when in use. This just kicks in when the humidity rises above 50% so isn’t on all that much.

In the house we have one which runs constantly and hasn’t been problematic at all.

Just remember to hoover the filter grill every few weeks as dust build up will compromise efficiency.

  6. I believe the difference between Arete One and Two is just that the Two has ‘smart’ capabilities (and that the One has two different colour options).

I did a bit of research into them recently as we’re looking to buy for our laundry room imminently – the one I’m going for is the Arete Two 12L.

  7. We recently bought the Tasciugo Ariadry Multi. It was expensive but it’s a pretty good one and we need it in our ground floor flat that is prone to getting damp.

  8. How broken? With it so cold, humidity is pretty low at the moment so if it’s just not collecting water, it might not be dead. Even my Meaco has stopped collecting at times and I thought it had died.

Meaco’s advice was to have a hot shower and then put the dehumidifier in the bathroom on continuous and ta da, it suddenly started working again.

  9. I bought a standalone A/C unit last year in the winter for around £160. It works well as a dehumidifier and was a godsend during the hot summer 👍

  10. Probreeze, some are smart so you can see what’s going on in the app and adjust as you need. Would recommend plus their customer service has been good so far.

  11. The meaco has a common fault where the buttons stop working and they eventually stop running. Mine still runs but none of the buttons work and I wouldn’t buy another one.
