Does anybody remember reading these stories? I’ve been trying to find them for years.

There were these books I remember from being a kid, and nobody else seems to remember them.

So, the first one had a story where this kid is eating mountains of boiled eggs, and how I remember it is people keep telling him he'll get egg-bound, but he doesn't listen, and just keeps eating nothing but eggs, and it ends up where he's lying on a beach, and the sun hard boils him. He turns into like this massive egg and can't move, and people start eating him.

I've tried a few times over the years to find it, but no joy.

Would have been late '80s or early '90s that I read it, but the book was probably older, like maybe '60s or '70s, because it was at me granny's house.

The other one is where this kid gets left in the house on his own for whatever reason and there's a knock at the door, and it's this weird bloke with a briefcase selling scissors that'll cut anything.

I seem to remember that even though he never opens the door the kid somehow ends up with the scissors (I remember there being like a line drawing of the bloke's creepy eyes looking through the letterbox) and he chops all the furniture and carpets and stuff up with them. Even cuts the fishbowl clean in half. Then he realises he has to explain what's happened to his parents and he's absolutely bricking it and crying and stuff, and the bloke turns up again, and this time, he's got this mad glue in his briefcase and the kid uses it to fix everything as if it had never been knacked in the first place.

This would have been about the same sort of time I read the thing about the egg man, but I think the book was fairly new and there were other stories in it. Pretty sure the story was just called "The Very Sharp Scissors", but when I try to find anything online, I just get loads of scissor ads as the search results.

Can anybody remember what the egg one was called, or what book the one with the scissors is from?
