I’ve been gifted an insane amount of chocolate and sweets this year, and I know if I’m left alone with it I’ll probably eat far too much. From a health perspective, it feels best to just get it out of the house. Do food banks normally accept these kinds of items, or is there a better place to donate them..maybe somewhere specifically for kids?

Don’t know about donating but I actually leave it all at my mum’s house and then when I go there in the next few months I can take a treat home with me. Like you I can’t have it in my own house haha
If the items are not out of date or about to be then they will accept unopened ones.
I would just save one to regift if the date is long enough or eat them all… I’m all out myself.
Regift if you go to anyone’s house in the next few days/weeks? Otherwise, you can use the olio app to give aaay unwanted food.
Why not gift them to neighbours?
Gift to neighbours, friends or I take them into work where they last about 10 minutes
As long as they’re packaged and have a use by date of at least 3 months, then the food bank will happily take them.
I have allergies and if i dont want any sweets, I leave them in the works canteen, they’re gone soon enough
Food banks will take them and divvy them up between their users
If they are sealed boxes and packets that are clearly still in date I would think food banks would take them.
Or, depending on what kind of job you have, could you take some into work to share? That first week or two back in the new year is always a killer!
If not you could keep longer dated ones on a top shelf in your home so you don’t scoff them all at once
As long as they are wrapped and not open, yes they will.
I *always* buy treats for the food bank because that stuff is often missing.
I’ll let you know if I ever manage to get more than I can eat 😆
Check the dates and if good, put them up for Easter or next Xmas.
In the UK..we have ‘food banks ‘ which accept unwrapped and in date foodstuffs including sweets which are distributed to families in poverty.
List it on olio and someone will collect them
Foodbanks, neighbours, even leave them out with a note for regular visits i.e. dustmen, postie
Freeze what you can for later in the year. That way you have a sweet treat at the ready.
If unopened give them to a local primary school/nursery teacher, they can use them as rewards or just to send the kids home wired on sugar which is always funny, failing that give them to somebody down on their luck. Homeless or poverty stricken “do you want a box of chocolates?” And a five minute chat to make them feel human for a change
I’m on Mounjaro so eating sweets is a solid no, but people still buy me loads of sweets cuz I used to enjoy them… I just gave them to the kids in the family and some to work! ♥
I take them into work so they eat them all and remove the temptation from me!
As everyone has said give to friends or family. But last year I took a full bag for life and left it at the food collection bit in a supermarket, better someone else enjoy it
Take them in to the office as a new year treat for everyone?
If they’re all in boxes or packets you can donate to your local food bank
As a teacher I get loads of boxes of chocolates – I end up giving them to staff at the hospital ( I had breast cancer so give a box to the nurses there) and I also go to an Osteopathic school for treatment in my knee – I give a box to the receptionists there and also the GP surgery. Just a thought- homeless shelters might enjoy them too.
If they’re in date, save them for Halloween. I just take them into the office next time I’m in and they go within a couple of hours

Any local nursing homes you can give some to?
Put it on olio
I take them to work, soon get snaffled away
My friend, I take any kind of excess sweets, deserts and cakes to work and the vultures demolish the lot in hours.
We have at the end of our street, a donation hub, there’s usually books, but if we got too many biscuits and chocolates, I’d put them there
Wish I lived next door, hardly got any chocolates this year.
I’m gonna bring mine into my work so the my coworkers can go through them.
The original plan was to take them to our DnD games night but we’ve been forbidden to do that
Foodbanks, hospices, care homes etc will normally accept unopened boxes
I take mine to work and leave them in the kitchen with a note that says ‘help yourself :)’. They always vanish by the end of the day.
I literally just portion everything out and include it in my calorie count, then get really thankful when I can start eating more nutrient dense snacks.
Put them in a cupboard you don’t use often and treat yourself to a small bowl full once a week.
offer some to your postie, binmen or delivery driver.
Take it into work in the new year?
