Prompted by the rush of "taking the tree down on boxing day" posts etc.
For us here in the North of Scotland, Christmas Day kicks off the season. Last night was boxing day dances and gigs, more social gatherings tonight (printing out quiz questions as I type this) and on, ramping up to New Years Eve where it becomes basically 24/7 parties, socialising etc until the 4th, then just evening gatherings and gigs etc until it all comes to an abrupt end on the 12th. (probably the 11th this year, that being the Sunday)
