I realized this first years ago but only from
politicians. The line is typically dropped in an emotional appeal of somebody trying to hit a feel good message for the “common man” and goes like:
“the AMERICAN people have the right to know / do / say / …”
The thing why it caught my attention is because 90% of times this line is dropped it is in a cheesy way of somebody rich/powerful/influential trying to hit a feel good message (most recently heard on the all in pod).
I’m from the German speaking area and lived in all three (Germany, Switzerland, Austria) and I think I never heard “die deutsche bevölkerung hat ein recht” – the phrase is always just “the people/the voters/the tax payers”
Why do you always emphasize the AMERICAN?.
