Hi there,

I am a 25F nurse who is dating a 24M med school student. He is in his 3rd year. Recently, I’ve noticed that we might have some personality differences that I am not sure I’m just being unreasonable about. I’m quite an extroverted, bubbly personality and he’s more reserved and quiet. At the end of the day, I’m really excited to have a conversation with him about our days and just having a chance to have a conversation with him. In person, we see each other about twice a week. And other times we will just text.

Well, I’ve been noticing that the times we do hangout, he has little to no energy. He acts like there’s nothing in him to have a full on conversation or like engage in a way. I get that he’s so exhausted and tired from studying all day but I also have commitments that I’m tired from but I try to push it down so that I can have a nice couple hours with him, he also is one of my best friends so I want to tell him everything. I don’t think it has to do with not being “interested” in me because he’s expressed this multiple times. But I’m starting to wonder if I’m just unreasonable because some people are just exhausted at the end of the day, or if this is truly what he’s like.

TLDR: I (25F, nurse) am dating a 24M med student who’s very reserved, while I’m extroverted and chatty. We see each other about twice a week, but when we do, he often seems drained and doesn’t engage in conversation, likely because he’s exhausted from studying. I try to bring my energy despite being tired too, since he’s my best friend and I want to connect. He reassures me he’s interested, but I’m struggling to figure out whether I’m being unreasonable for wanting more interaction, or if this is just his natural personality showing.
