By "successful," I mean financially and socially. Mormonism is one of the wealthiest religious groups, with businesses, real estate, and other assets. I studied at BYU in Provo, Utah, where Mormons are welcoming and well-connected. Outside Utah, in states like California or Illinois, I noticed many criticisms of its history, doctrines, theology, and practices. How does a relatively new religion with only a few million members grow into such a powerful social and political force, influence people like Mitt Romney, and maintain a strong internal network despite outside criticism?
