Are Protestant Germanic nation-states still considered part of the Western world despite their historical split from the Catholic Church?

Given that European identity was originally shaped through the Christianization of pagan peoples and their incorporation into the papal order, wouldn’t the Protestant Reformation, and the rise of state-established Protestant churches, undermine Germanic Protestant claims to European identity?
