I M29 been seeing F28 for about 9 months and everything has been good.
Shortly after we met, she lost her job and thankfully I’m in a profession where I can financially provide. I wanted to have fun summer, so I paid for our trips, expensive dinners, weekend getaways etc. she’s been collecting unemployment, but also cries that she doesn’t have money and stuff and I’ve been covering everything in her life except rent. She even started coming to my place more often to save money on groceries and I’m okay with that.
Well last weekend she was on her phone with her mom and I heard her mom say “go into the other account, you should be set for years without lifting a finger”. I got curious but didn’t know how to ask her. Eventually I summoned up that courage to and at first she was like that was her joking, then later she told me her grand father patented something and made millions off it. He also had a business that was worth in the billions, she didn’t go into specifics about what side of the family he was on and stuff, but she has a living trust she has access to, when I asked her how much she told me it’s a lot but not much. I felt swindled and asked her that I wanted the exact amount, she started crying then told me it was $9m. She said she doesn’t wanna touch it under any circumstance till she knows what she wants to invest in.
I feel so betrayed bc I’ve been funding her life and feeling bad for her bc she’s out of a job and is “struggling to pay her bills”. I do well, but I don’t have 9m stashed away somewhere. I’ve been really silent ever since she told me and I told her I need a minute. I feel like my blind trust in her has been used and I feel betrayed.
I need advice on how to even handle this. On one hand we had a good relationship, but it has majorly been me paying for her life and feeling bad for her and now I feel lied to. I should never feel bad for someone that has enough money to fund my life almost 9x over.
