Just found out that wedding insurance is a thing. Like I was scrolling instagram yesterday reading some wedding disaster stories and someone said they got money refunded to them because they had "wedding insurance" like I thought it was a joke but i looked it up on google and learned that its a real thing. Can you guys actually insure pretty much anything over there? And how much would something like that cost? I'm from the UK but never heard about wedding insurance in my life.

Everything can be insured for the right price buddy.
It’s all about how much you’re willing to spend.
I don’t think this is really an American thing. Loyd’s of London will insure literally anything.
Tbh anything with liability can be insured. Most event thrown by a company or org are insured
Anyone can insure pretty much anything, It’s not American exclusive.
Basically, yes. It’s certainly not common to insure a wedding or anything, but I’m sure there is a company that’ll do it. No idea on cost/but it would be a risk analysis from the insurer. AKA, how often do we pay out a claim and how much money do we want.
The UK does have wedding insurance? [https://wedinsure.co.uk/faqs](https://wedinsure.co.uk/faqs)
>I’m from the UK but never heard about wedding insurance in my life.
I’m from the US and have never heard about wedding insurance in my life. I suppose I have now but I hadn’t prior to like 30 seconds ago.
Lloyds of London insured Tina Turners legs.
It’s your own peeps doing the most 🤣
Weddings can be large events. I’m sure your local concert venue or business convention center also has insurance for their large events.
In my local city, after an event gets past X number of people, the event has to be insured if its going to be in a place like a public park.
I really don’t think most Americans insure weddings like that. The only insurance we had was the bartender’s liability insurance (i.e. for damage to property or harm caused by drinking).
People insure weddings in the UK. It’s probably not as common there, but people definitely do it.
Hell, the Lloyds of London in the UK invented the concept of insuring literally anything (celebrity moustaches, food critic taste buds).
Yeah, pretty much, but there’s a reason insurance companies are very profitable.
There are plethora of unusual insurance polices with narrow definitions and coverage. They are sold all of the world, especially Lloyd’s of London.
Here are some. [https://smartfinancial.com/weird-types-of-insurance](https://smartfinancial.com/weird-types-of-insurance)
I think this is less an American thing and more you and I aren’t wealthy enough to need these things. I guarantee you rich people across the world use insurance for anything you can think of.
Insurance in America comes from England lol Y’all had it a lot longer & brought it over. Look up the history of Lloyd’s of London. I bet they offer wedding insurance along with other events in the UK.
Kim Kardashians ass is insured
Yes, when you are spending large amounts of money on something is can be prudent to spend a bit more money on insurance. This usually covers you in case the event is cancelled. But there are often limits, just like life insurance often doesn’t pay out for suicide, wedding insurance might not pay out if you get cold feet and cancel on your own. It is more for weather related emergencies, or if your venue burns down. But this will vary based on the policy (more expensive policies will pay for more situations).
Many american churches have insurance against child sex abuse settlements.
So thats a thing.
I’m an insurance agent. You can insure almost anything and event coverage, like weddings, is common.
Yes. [Even cows](https://www.thehartford.com/business-insurance/livestock-insurance).
Event insurance is pretty common, I’m in the industry, and festivals and concerts will take out insurance in case of bad weather, wildfires, etc.
In America as long as people are willing to spend money, there will be companies happy to take it
Wedding insurance isn’t common. But people do often get “umbrella policies” which cover you for liability up to a certain amount.
Yeah if somebody gets drunk at your wedding and wrecks the venue having Insurance can help cover it
I’m in America and have never heard of wedding insurance, either; I’m assuming that’s probably something for the folks who are spending a ridiculous amount of money on their weddings – tens or hundreds of thousands. I’m going to assume you’re probably paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for that policy, depending on what it is.
Funny thing about your question is, when I think of “insuring odd things,” I usually assume most people will first think of Lloyd’s, a British insurance company. Saying some celebrity has some crucial physical/anatomical part of themselves insured (e.g. if someone said Lady Gaga insured her vocal cords) “by Lloyd’s of London” used to be a common reference and/or joke. Not sure if anyone younger than Gen X/Elder Millennial has heard it, but for me, I think of a British insurance company when it comes to atypical insurance policies.
Not American, a fellow brit here. Wedding insurance is absolutely a thing and heavily recommended. If you’ve not had a wedding, or had a very very low key wedding then that is why you’ve never heard of it.
Not just specific to the US, we’re involved with homes and businesses in Sicily too, can’t think of anything applying to us that we’re not insured for. Some company somewhere will insure something
Isn’t Loyds of London like world famous for insuring anything???
If an insurance company thinks they can make money insuring the thing, they will.
Radiologists can insure their eyes, since if they don’t have eyesight their entire practice can go down the drain
The short is yeah, probably. Insurance is about risk. If you are taking on a large financial risk (such as spending $30k, $50k, $100k+ on a wedding), insurance can help you in the event that something were to go wrong. In the case of weddings, there are more than one type of insurance. The most common type is Liability Insurance which mainly covers guest injuries or property damage. However there is also Cancellation Insurance which can reimburse the couple for some of the wedding disaster stories that you read about.
I got married this year and we paid $415.73 for both. Thankfully we didn’t end up needing to use it, but from my perspective it was still well worth it to have.
I dunno, but Taylor Swift got her legs insured. I guess anything is possible 🤷🏻♀️
We’ve had models and actors insure their LEGS.
I have never heard of wedding insurance but if you are willing to pay I’m sure someone out there is willing to insure many things.
Tina Turner had her legs insured. This is not just an American thing. But since you asked common American insurance is: rental, home owners, automobile, health, life, dental, eye, venue/event, and business.
Insurance is just a bet with a contract. You bet something bad will happen and the insurer bets it won’t happen and charges you what they think they should be paid based on the likelihood of the policy failing.
Rich people can even insure the projected taxes owed to the government and comes at a lower cost than the taxes owed. Everything is insurable at a cost. But I don’t think that’s exclusive to the US.
You can’t insure premature ejaculation. But I hear that’s coming quickly.
If your wedding is going to cost as much as a house you should probably have some protections.
You can insure just about anything. Whether or not it’s worth the cost is another question. I’ve always considered insurance of any kind a hedge against catastrophe, rather than mere inconvenience.
Event insurance is common and makes complete sense. I had a realitively cheap DIY wedding (sub $10k) in a state park lodge so I didn’t insure my wedding but I had friends spend in the $50-$100k range. Another part of this is severe weather events are more common in the US. The east coast has hurricanes, the west coast has wildfires, and in the middle you have tornados. Imagine spending a substantial part of your life savings on your wedding day to then be told a category 5 hurricane is coming and you need to evacuate. You’re going to want insurance for that.
