I have a close friend who is by their own acknowledgment visibly overweight. But they are working towards bettering their own wellbeing and I’m proud of them. I support them 100%.

I was walking with them down the road to head into town and I ended up counting 2-3 cars who drove past, where someone shouted a some horrible slur out of the car window or just manically laughed.

I’m a normal average weighted person. I guess I take this for granted. This only ever happens when I’m with my friend. I feel sorry for them because they are trying so hard to feel better about themselves and having that confidence to continue that is so important, but it’s these small things that can knock you down.

I thought I lived in quite a calm area but knowing there’s these sort of people out and about is quite distressing. Who knows what else they discriminate against or do to other people.

The only time this has happened to me by myself was riding a pushbike to my now ex’s house, down a main road. Someone called me a knob, for whatever reason.

Is this just a UK thing?
