I live in a huge city and here people are so overwhelmed by crowd and the rush so mostly they pretend that other people in public transport don't exist, everyone is tapping their phone or listen to music or sleep. But if you go to more rural regions you can expect strangers to ask you any question or start a smalltalk, and quite often strangers can talk at length all the way especially on long 20+ hour train journeys. If you visit southern regions you can be certain that the locals will constantly ask you where you are from and how do you like this place. I experienced this a lot in Armenia and Georgia for example, people there are known to be super friendly to strangers but also sometimes annoying and disrespecting the personal space (which you have to adapt to if you visit). What is it in your country? I've read that in Scandinavian countries especially it is rude to talk to strangers and even make eye contact, is this true?
