What EU politicians from your country are in the EU because your government wanted to get rid of them?

Apparently many politicians in the EU are sent there because they’re incompetent and sending them to the EU is a convenient way to get rid of them.

For example, UvDL (according to Germans, at least). She was apparently sent to the EU to get her out of German politics
