I dunno if this is like a coincidence thing, like maybe the way jeans are constructed or their quality is going down over time and, of course, I'm getting older over time, too. Or maybe it's changes in physique – I'm certainly bigger / heavier than I was when I was younger, but I'm not super overweight or shaped oddly or anything.

I dunno I just never remember this being a problem until I got over 35, but now that's like the #1 way that my jeans wind up in the trash – long before I get holes in the knees or the cuffs at the end of the legs or tear belt loops or anything else, I start getting holes or, a couple times to my great embarrassment, completely tear open the crotch where the seams all come together at the taint area.

What's up with that? Anybody else?

  1. Take a pencil, ruler or other thin long thing, and stick in between your upper thighs as high as they can go. Then walk around. If that stick stays in place and starts rotating left and right, then you could probably lose a bit of weight to help lengthen the lifespan of your pants.

  2. They don’t fit properly. I had same issue. Also I fucking hate those stretchy jeans that are everywhere now

  3. Dude! Thought this was just me! I’ve gone through 3 jeans and 2 pants in like the last 3 years!

No major weight gain. No “hard” use. Then ya bend over or a coworker gives you a fright, next thing you know, heading home to change lol.

  4. I absolutely do in my coveralls at work. That being said I sometimes need to fold up like a jackknife to get in some spots to work.

  5. You need to find a better fit. You body’s shape has changed in some way and the old fit won’t do.

  6. Haven’t had this issue. The only thing I’ve noticed is that I appreciate jeans with plenty of ball room a lot more than when I was younger.

  7. This has been an issue for me since I was in college, but I also ride my bicycle a lot and largely chalk it up to that.

  8. Just get yourself a pair with a 1-2% blend of spandex and it’ll help a lot and they’ll be more comfortable

  9. You’re getting larger via fat, muscle or both.

Take some time to resize and check the fit type of what you’re buying and that should help.

It happens, or things similar do. I’m having to slowly update my trousers as I’ve gotten bigger in general, so things look a size too small compared to when I first got them. They’re going from slim to skinny fit looking the longer I wait. 🤣

  10. Yeah. I’ve got chonky thighs. My jeans always get a hole where the fabric rubs.

I only weigh 175lb and 5’10 so I’m not a big boy. Still don’t know when it started happening but same, never used to happen when younger.

  11. Observation here but I don’t see why this isn’t a huge business opportunity. Any company that reinforced the crotch in some way where it would never wear thin or split,. would pretty much be an instant “buy it for life” for me.

  12. > I’m certainly bigger / heavier than I was when I was younger, but I’m not super overweight or shaped oddly or anything.

Honestly, this sounds like you’re fat and in denial.

  13. Yeah also like weights are heavier and I find that the waistbands of all pants are being made smaller than before. Also someone stole the vast majority of my hair and if I find out who did it I’m going to beat him up after a quick nap.

  14. You can’t wear ’em every day and expect for ’em to hold up. You gotta take ’em off every now and then. You gotta take ’em off, son!

  15. No issues with the crotch. Just my belly is getting fatter so it’s too tight around the waist.

  16. Nope. I do however choke on my spit at totally random times now. I almost died from it twice today.

  17. “My thighs rub together. I’m surprised the jeans that are wedged in there die from friction quickly.”

  18. I wear out the left pocket of my pants. I work as a courier and I’m constantly putting and pulling my keys out of my left pocket. The crotch is fine. 😀

  19. Do you ride a bicycle?

I keep blowing out the crotch in my jeans and I think it’s because I ride a bike a lot.

  20. It’s the chonky thigh phenomenon. I had it when I was young from having massively muscular tree trunks for legs. I have it in my 40s from having massively wobbly thighs.

  21. The fabric has gotten a lot thinner. Especially in Levis. I get about six months out of jeans tops and inevitably they get a hole in the crotch. I’ve also got some older Levis and Eddie Bauers that are 20 years old and worn but with no holes.
