I listen to a podcast that’s presented by 3 guys in England. They use a slang phrase I’ve never heard, and all my googling gives me nothing…no explanation, etc.

They occasionally say that such-and-such “sent me for a bag of chips.” It’s not exactly clear even from context what it means…it could mean “made me mad,” “disappointed me,” “let me down,” etc.

Can someone enlighten me? Thanks very much to all!

ETA: some additional context…it’s the Late Braking F1 Podcast. Unfortunately I don’t have a clip (I can try to find one), but I can tell you how they’re using it.

It mostly seems to be used when their equipment fails them at a critical time in the show, and they’re frustrated. Like they try to start a theme song for a specific segment, it won’t play…someone quite often says “this thing always sends me for a bag of chips.”

I can tell from context that they’re not talking about a literal bag of chips.
