Regarding the U.S. approval of South Korea’s possession of nuclear-powered submarines, China, through its state-run media, claimed that South Korea’s submarines would be used to contain China and would expose the country to greater conflict and risk. North Korea has also objected, arguing that South Korea’s pursuit of nuclear-powered submarines is essentially a step toward its own nuclear armament and could trigger a nuclear domino effect in Northeast Asia.
