I don’t mean this to diss anyone (I’m a Londoner born and bred myself and absolutely noticed this in myself family and friends and most people outside too). but for some reason it takes me a lot more effort here to look half as put together as I looked in other countries I’ve lived in.

with that out of the way, does anyone else see it too? like, say compared to other European countries, the general aesthetic of the average uk person (also the same in major US cities like NYC and the like), it seems that people kind of give a more “lived in” vibe – people rarely look freshly showered (even if they are) or particularly cotton/linen/fresh laundry type of put together if that makes sense. If people dress up it looks like they’re trying a bit too hard to cake on makeup and whatnot, and with guys esp around my age (mid 20s) generally they tend to give more of a “vintage Depop seller” type of outfits. people’s shoes are rarely clean, not uncommon to see unkept nails or lint on clothes or faded clothes or so.

I know these are extremely specific descriptions but if you’ve gone to southern European countries, or Scandinavian countries and the like, even Australia, you might get what I mean when I’m saying that the general put togetherness is a little different? the average uk person looks a little off center in public?

I’m not saying one is better than the other and I’m well aware a lot of people actually aim for that as an aesthetic, but I’m just wondering if most people are actively aiming for it or if people actually try to look put together but something about the uk ends up resulting in that look?
